Devlog 1: Mining & Lumberjacking
Today, let’s chat about two fundamental mechanics in our game: mining and lumberjacking.
Mining
Let’s start with mining. Right now, we’re working with a list inspired by Ultima Online, but expect some changes down the line. Here’s what we’ve got:
- Iron Ore (0+)
- Dull Copper Ore (65+)
- Shadow Iron Ore (70+)
- Copper Ore (75+)
- Bronze Ore (80+)
- Golden Ore (85+)
- Agapite Ore (90+)
- Verite Ore (95+)
- Valorite Ore (99+)
We’re placing ore deposits throughout the world — think designated spots like rocks or veins. However, be warned: higher-tier deposits will be found in treacherous territories, guarded by some tough monsters.
Here’s a quick peek at what the mining animation might look like:
Lumberjacking
Moving on to lumberjacking. It’s akin to mining, but with trees. Here’s what we’ve got so far:
- Plain (0+)
- Oak (65+)
- Ash (80+)
- Yew (85+)
- Bloodwood (90+)
- Heartwood (95+)
- Frostwood (99+)
Similarly, you’ll need to traverse the world to find trees to chop down. And yes, expect some challenges—especially when it comes to the rarer woods. Here’s a sneak peek at the lumberjacking animation:
